What is a problem solving essay

The problem solving essay can be defined as a text where a problem is exposed, explained in detail and solutions are offered. These types of tests are also known as “problem-solution tests”. They are generally used in the academic field and focus on analyzing and solving a particular problem.

Therefore, problem-solving essays should always provide solutions to the problem at hand. Although they also follow the same format as other essays in terms of their organization: they have an introduction and/or a thesis statement, a development, and a conclusion.

The main difference with other essays is that in a problem solving essay it is necessary to include some solutions. Also, it is preferable to add the possible reasons why a solution may not be effective in some cases. To solve a specific problem, it is advisable to use examples and clarify the problem or inconvenience in each of them.

As mentioned above, problem solving essays are made up of the introduction, the question or problem, and the solution . In many cases, the question is omitted and taken for granted in the context of the essay. Although the writer is free to organize the writing, all essays usually have a clear structure, in which the parts already mentioned stand out.
